Being Caged & the Pursuit of Ourselves

I thought to myself recently, where is freedom in our modern society ? Is it even possible to be free ? We trap and cage ourselves, chaining our hearts, minds, and souls to material possessions, and we do so without a second thought as to how our actions are really affecting us. Even people who are free of these possessions are still nailed to reality firmly with routines of their lives. Wake up, clean ourselves, work, come home, add in eating times as needed. This has many different variations, but at its core is the same outcome, men and women conditioned to walk along the exact same path as those before them without a second thought as to why they are doing so aside from a drive to excel at a particular field of life. How often is it that you wake up and think to yourself Why is it that you were placed on earth, at your core what were you meant for ? We walk through life, much of the time hectically, shooting past people, places and once in a lifetime opportunities without a second glance, eager to continue doing exactly what we've always done, follow the same rutted path that we have worked towards for years, and once we have achieved our goal of getting to that pathway of life we only continue to drag ourselves through it, making the ruts in the ground deeper. Like animals stalking about in their cages, we partake in little to no further existence then than the one we know. I write all of this hoping that maybe one day someone will stumble upon it and slow down long enough to actually view the world around them, to see nature, truly experience their actual emotions, and realize the life that we normally rush through taking for granted has many more pieces to it. Deeply rooted in all of us is the desire to become a part of what most no longer understand, a desire to fulfill ourselves, to break away from the chained existence of our possessions and routines and become more than a background piece in life.
